Leo turns 2 - what did we do?

Happy birthday my little one!🦁⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

This milestone is also for us parents for emerging slightly scathed (but still surviving) after 2 years of being thrown into parenthood. It really has been such a learning journey for us both and eh, very cliche but we'd never have it any other way.

For this year instead of our usual sit down dinner celebration we wanted to give him something more experiential with our undivided time. With just a meal it's always hubs on the phone and I really wanted to pry him out of it by involving him in the activity so I planned for sand play at Coastes on his actual birthday and pottery session the following week.

But first, cake cutting in his preschool! Since Leo is now in an Elmo loving phase, I wanted to custom make a character cake for him but after considering the cost and how much fondant and sugar it all would essentially be, we gave up the idea and went for a simple strawberry cake from our favourite Japanese bakery Chef Yamashita.

Together with some Sesame Street deco purchased from Taobao, I DIY the cake with ribbon and bunting and completed the backdrop with a cute banner. Mighty proud of the outcome considering how little we spent.

On his birthday itself we decided to take Leo to a beach for the first time for some sand play. Coastes was perfect as they had sunbeds sitting directly in front of the shoreline making it an ideal place to play and chill. Do note the beds are chargeable at $22 to rent with no time limit and it comes with a free ice tea.

French toast was surprisingly yummy

3 hours in the sun and water and boy were we knackered. I haven't seen Leo this ecstatic with the sand it was quite a sight to watch. Thank god for sunscreen too because even with it we returned 3 shades darker yikes.

I've always been interested in finding unique activities for the family and one of it was pottery. Most are quite pricey with each parent accompanied session costing between 60 to 90 dollars which was why I've been holding back. Until recently when I discovered Thow Kwang Pottery, the last standing dragon kiln in Singapore, listed in Klook at a super affordable rate of 45 bucks (35 if it's adult only).

There are 2 different sessions conducted at varying rates. One is hand building and the other is hand building + pottery wheel. The former involves creating your masterpiece from scratch using a sheet of clay and painting where else the latter has an additional short session to have a go at building a bowl from a lump of clay at the pottery wheel.

Both sessions are within 2 - 2.5hrs so I did find the latter a bit more rushed. Plus the wheel requires more technique which I doubt Leo will be able to handle with daddy.

You will leave your art work with them for glazing and will receive an SMS when it's done about 3-4 weeks later. Can't wait to receive ours!
