Japan
Better late than never, maybe?

We took a trip to Japan in May this year with my sister and her family and it reminded me why it is one place I can never seem to get tired of. The food is incredible, the people are hospitable and most of all, DisneySea! It wasn't easy to take photos with the baby in tow but I think I did manage to capture the most memorable moments (and eats).

For this trip we decided to not be over ambitious so Tokyo was our only stop. We did venture further out to the outskirts for Disneyland/Sea but for most parts we just hung around the city taking leisure strolls, shopping and popping into all the delicious eateries.

Our first sushi stop was a random find near our Airbnb which was surprisingly decent for its price. We had absolutely zero guilt piling on uni and negitoro because it was so affordable as compared to Singapore.

Look at that generous pile of negitoro!

This is what we came for!
Probably the only activity we actually planned for the entire trip and very well worth it. I wished we had gone ahead to bite the bullet and book a night's stay within Disney because it got a wee rush after the fireworks and the crowds at the station thereafter was just ugh.

Japan is one of the only 2 Asian outpost of Luke's and we had to give it a go. If I recall it was only about SGD25 for a lobster roll which is really quite decent compared to what we get here.
Not gonna lie we came back here 2 days in a row.

You wouldn't think we'd give Tsukiji Market a miss now would you? We happen to pass a stall at the outskirts of the market that's brimming with people and curiosity got the better of us.
I suppose brimming is an understatement here

You will not regret this. A piping bowl of braised meat rice bowl! The gravy has an incredible umami depth, plus the addition of the konnyaku jelly giving it an interesting texture!! You can skip the sushi if you want, but definitely not this.

Okay, don't judge. We queued for Sushi Dai while at it for a grand total of... 5 hours.

FIVE BLEEDING HOURS.

Was it worth it?
It was here that we were introduced to horse mackerel sashimi and oh my goodness, the taste and texture is phenomenal! It lends itself more towards the fishy side hence it is always accompanied with ginger and spring onion but I can promise you this takes you to a new sushi heights.

Back to the question, was it worth the 5 hours? Well, I think for the first time experience it was well worth it. Everything was fresh and flavourful and the fish had the kind of texture very unlike what eat in Jap restaurants here. But if I were to do it again probably not. Once is enough as 5 hours in the sun was really not a joke.
Ended our trip at Turret's for the largest cup of Joe, ever! It was the size of a soup bowl and we both had such a caffeine kick out of it.
